Campaign

Richard Ormerod, a Sprout fan, has started a campaign to get Paddy McAloon awarded the Honorary Freedom of the City of Durham. He already managed to have it printed on the front page of "Durham Times", and hopefully soon it will appear in the free "Durham Advertiser".

He is asking to all fans to write to Councillor Fraser Reynolds (Leader of the Council) asking for Paddy to be granted the award. Let's The letter is to be sent to:

Dear Councillor Reynolds,

I am writing to request that Paddy McAloon be granted the Honorary Freedom of the City of Durham, in recognition of his achievements as one of Britain's greatest ever songwriters.

As well as achieving much success with his own band, Prefab Sprout, Paddy has also had his songs recorded by internationally famous artists including Kylie Minogue, Cher and Jimmy Nail.

As you are aware, Paddy comes from Witton Gilbert and is widely recognised as one of the top songwriters of his generation.

It is no exaggeration to say that he is Durham's John Lennon, and I believe that the City should formally recognise his outstanding talent.

Yours sincerely,
.................
